A wild story from CBS New York came out this week. Apparently there is a new breed of mosquito plaguing the City that Never Sleeps – one that breeds in the humid warmth of the city’s sewer system year round.

This particular breed, then, comes into people’s homes through cracks and vents at bites at night.

“They trapped 150 mosquitoes in the basement in a 24-hour period coming from underground and into the basement and up in the house through the air vents and it’s the same story as the other brownstones on this block,” one homeowner told CBS New York.

This breed is also particularly blood thirsty.

“They’re hungry,” said one resident, pointing out bites on her child. “Three on this ear. One on his cheek. One on his neck, and there are some on his arms going up his arm.”

Luckily we’re in the clear for mosquitoes for now in our part of the country. However, it is never too early to begin planning on how you will protect your family next year from dangerous outdoor pests.
